Level 3 Award

Overview

This qualification is primarily for those working with children in play or child-care related settings.


What is covered in the course?

This qualification will allow learners to develop their current knowledge and skills required for employment within a playwork setting. It combines both reflective practice, activities and workbook theoretical knowledge to cover areas such as:

The following topics are featured as mandatory:

  • Playwork principles
  • Play cycle
  • Play types
  • Playwork theories


How is the course delivered?

Learners will need to attend 5 sessions;

  • a sign-up session
  • three workshop sessions: Unit 300: A playworker’s understanding of play, Unit 301: Playwork in practice and Unit 302: Playwork in the wider context
  • a sign-off session


These can be completed at the desired pace of the learner, e.g. weekly or monthly.

Each session is 3 hours long and is held via Microsoft Teams. To give flexibility, sessions are available every:

  • Monday at 10am - 1pm
  • Tuesday at 1pm - 4pm
  • Wednesday at 4pm - 7pm (available once a month), or
  • Friday at 11:30am - 2:30pm.


Assignments will be set at each session and will need to be completed by the following session. All assignments will be supported by our Learning Hub platform where learners will have access to workbooks, teaching resources, knowledge check questions and supporting documents.

Entry requirements

The learner will need a previous childcare level 3 qualification and be in a paid employment with a contract of employment for them to meet the requirements of the programme.

On successful completion of the qualification, the individual will be awarded the following:
